Golf Cart Rental & Safety Policies

To ensure a smooth pace of play and the protection of our course conditions, all players renting carts at Salt Lake City golf courses must adhere to the following guidelines.

    • Fees: Cart fees are charged per rider. Single-rider carts may be available upon request, subject to daily demand and course volume.
    • Operator Age: All drivers must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.

    • Cart Capacity: No more than two riders and two golf bags are permitted per cart.

    • Shared Rentals: Due to high demand and a limited fleet, players should expect to share a cart with another golfer in their group.

    • Fleet Limits: To protect turf health and manage traffic flow, each group is limited to a maximum of two golf carts.

    • Spectator Restrictions: To prioritize equipment for active players, spectator carts are not permitted.

Care for the Course and Safety

    • Restricted Areas: Carts are strictly prohibited within 30 feet of all greens, tees, and bunkers. Please keep all four tires on the designated paths near these areas.

    • Environmental Hazards: Avoid driving through tall "no-mow" fescue areas, wet turf, or recently repaired ground.

    • Path Only: During inclement weather or specific maintenance windows, carts may be restricted to cart paths only.

    • Braking: Ensure the parking brake is fully engaged before exiting the vehicle.

    • Personal Responsibility: The person signing for the rental is responsible for any damage to the cart or course property during their round.

    • Etiquette: Please remain seated while the vehicle is in motion and keep arms and legs inside the cart at all times.

If you need assistance obtaining a golf cart or GPS restrictions removed for greater on-course accessibility, please notify a staff member in the golf shop when you check-in.

    Rental Clubs

Elevate your game even if you left your sticks at home. We offer premium Callaway rental sets for golfers of all skill levels, available on a first-come, first-served basis in the golf shop. To ensure a quality experience for everyone on the course, please adhere to the following guidelines:

    Rental Guidelines

    • One Set Per Player: For pace of play and equipment management, every golfer must have their own set of clubs. Sharing a rental or personal set is not permitted on either course.

    • Identification Required: A valid driver’s license or credit card must be left in the golf shop for the duration of the rental.

    • Equipment Care: The player is responsible for the clubs from pickup until they are checked back into the golf shop. Please report any pre-existing damage before heading to the 1st tee. All rental equipment is the property of Bonneville Golf Course. Clubs must be returned in the same condition as they were received.

    • Availability:  Rental sets are available for both right- and left-handed golfers, as well as for men and women. If you are visiting during a peak time or require a specific set (such as junior or left-handed clubs), we recommend calling the golf shop at 801-583-9513 in advance to confirm availability.

    • Premium Callaway Rental Set: $50 per 18-hole round / $30 per 9-hole round. Includes a sleeve of Callaway golf balls per 9-hole round.

    • Damage & Loss Fees: By renting equipment, you agree that your credit card on file will be charged the following rates (per club) for any missing or damaged items:

      • Fairway Woods: $250

      • Irons: $100

      • Putter: $200

The Legacy of Bonneville Golf Course

Nestled in the foothills of Salt Lake City, Bonneville Golf Course is more than just a place to tee off—it’s a historic landmark that has evolved alongside the city itself.

    Origins: From Sunnyside to Bonneville

In the early 1920s, as golf surged in popularity across the U.S., Salt Lake City’s Parks Department set out to meet the local demand for a public course. Originally dubbed "Sunnyside Golf Links" because of its proximity to the Sunnyside reservoir, the course's permanent name was chosen through a public contest proposed by Parks Commissioner Harry Finch. "Bonneville" emerged as the winner, and the name was officially adopted before the course opened its gates on May 24, 1929.

    The Architect’s Vision

The original layout was designed by William Henry Tucker, a British transplant and renowned turf-grass expert. While Tucker designed a full 18-hole course, only nine holes were initially completed. This original circuit utilized what we now know as holes 1, 4 through 10, and 18.

Though the second nine holes were intended to follow shortly after, budget constraints stalled progress for decades. Construction on the remaining holes didn’t begin until 1955.

    A Mid-Century Transformation

The "new" 18-hole Bonneville was reimagined by the legendary father-son duo William Park “Billy” Bell and William Francis Bell. This project was a rare collaboration for the pair, occurring after WWII as the younger Bell began to lead the firm.

    • Billy Bell is a titan of golf architecture, famous for his work on California icons like Riviera, Bel-Air, and Torrey Pines.

    • The final nine holes were completed in September 1956, finally realizing the full 18-hole vision for the property.

    A Salt Lake City Institution

Over the decades, Bonneville has hosted prestigious events like the Utah State Amateur Championship and Salt Lake City Open, earning a reputation for its challenging play and stunning vistas. Today, it remains a "must-visit" destination and a source of local pride—a testament to over a century of golfing tradition in the Utah valley.
